    Course-specific, not “general English”

We distinguish IB English A, IB English B, AP English Language, and AP English Literature before deciding what to teach.

    Direct answer

What does IB and AP English tutoring do?

English tutoring helps a student make the reasoning behind a strong response visible: a defensible interpretation or claim, carefully selected evidence, clear explanation, purposeful organization, and control of language. The task changes by course, so tutoring begins by identifying the exact specification and component.

Bespoke Learning supports IB English A and B as well as AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition. Lessons may focus on close reading, rhetorical or literary analysis, comparative argument, source synthesis, oral communication, timed writing, or targeted language development.

    Course-aware support

English support across distinct course demands

We teach the transferable skills, but always in the task format, criteria, and textual world of the student’s course.

    IB English A

Literary and non-literary analysis, comparison, oral argument, and—where applicable—the HL essay.

    • Paper 1 close analysis of unseen material
    • Paper 2 comparative argument from studied works
    • Individual oral and HL essay skills within academic-integrity limits

    IB English B

Language acquisition across the prescribed themes, with communication shaped for audience, context, purpose, and meaning.

    • Paper 1 writing choices and text types
    • Paper 2 listening and reading comprehension
    • Individual oral interaction and purposeful language development

    AP English

Separate pathways for Language and Composition and Literature and Composition, aligned to current digital exam formats.

    • Synthesis, rhetorical analysis, and argument for AP Language
    • Poetry, prose fiction, and literary argument for AP Literature
    • Multiple-choice reasoning and timed free-response practice

What stronger English work makes visible

    A defensible claim

Answer the actual task with an interpretation or position that can be developed.

    Evidence with purpose

Select detail precisely and explain how it advances the line of reasoning.

    Coherent structure

Sequence ideas so each paragraph earns its place and the whole response builds.

    Independent revision

Diagnose weaknesses and make deliberate improvements without losing the student’s voice.

A good fit for students who…

    • understand the text but struggle to turn observations into analysis
    • need a clearer line of reasoning across paragraphs or timed responses
    • want oral practice that develops thinking rather than a memorized script
    • need feedback translated into a repeatable revision method

    Our approach

From uncertainty to an independent next step

The exact lesson changes by student. The underlying process stays clear, practical, and accountable.

    1. 01

      Map the exact course

We confirm the programme, subject, level, cohort, school deadlines, current work, and the student’s own priorities before suggesting a plan.

    2. 02

      Teach, practise, explain

The educator models a method, guides focused practice, and asks the student to explain or apply it independently so progress is visible.

    3. 03

      Leave with a next step

Every session closes with a practical priority: a short practice task, revision focus, draft decision, or plan for the next lesson.

What is the difference between IB English A and English B?+

English A is a studies-in-language-and-literature subject requiring advanced analysis of texts. English B is a language-acquisition course designed for students with prior experience of English. The assessment tasks and teaching priorities are different.

What is the difference between AP English Language and AP English Literature?+

AP English Language focuses mainly on nonfiction rhetoric, synthesis, and evidence-based argument. AP English Literature focuses on interpreting poetry, prose fiction, and drama. Both assess reading and writing, but through different texts and questions.

Can a tutor help with an IB individual oral or HL essay?+

A tutor can teach analysis, help the student understand the task, rehearse oral skills, ask questions, and give feedback within the school’s rules. The final ideas, wording, and assessed performance must remain the student’s own.

    Are AP English exams digital?+

College Board currently describes both AP English Language and AP English Literature as fully digital exams in Bluebook. We still confirm the current exam information for the student’s year before planning timed practice.

Can tutoring improve writing if the deadline is close?+

It can help prioritize the highest-value change, but the scope must be realistic. When a full draft already exists, the asynchronous essay-feedback service may be a faster fit; live tutoring is stronger when the student needs teaching and guided practice.

Do you provide the texts or reading list?+

The school sets the IB works and the teacher selects the AP reading sequence. Students should bring the texts and course materials they are permitted to share so tutoring stays relevant to their classroom programme.
